Lack of vaccine doses again this week

Appointments at ECC South & ECC North will be rescheduled

The Erie County Department of Health is cancelling COVID-19 vaccine appointments scheduled for ECC South on Friday, Jan. 29, and ECC North and ECC South on Saturday, Jan. 30, due to lack of vaccine supply.

These cancellations will affect 1,290 individuals who have scheduled appointments at ECDOH points of distribution. These individuals will receive notifications about these canceled appointments. Those whose appointments are canceled will be rescheduled at a future POD site once a vaccine supply is secured.

ECDOH is not currently scheduling vaccine appointments by phone.

Scheduled second-dose appointments through ECDOH are not affected by this announcement, nor does the news affect appointments at non-ECDOH sites, including pharmacies, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), hospitals and state sites. Those who are eligible are strongly encouraged to keep those appointments, and schedule at other locations if there are openings.

ECDOH has had its vaccine allocation dramatically reduced from the amount it requested. ECDOH is dependent on New York state for its vaccine supply, and is not able to order COVID-19 vaccine directly from vaccine manufacturers or the federal government.

Since opening its first POD on Jan. 4, ECDOH has distributed more than 16,000 first doses of the Moderna COVID vaccine and 320 second doses. ECDOH is currently capable of distributing more than 2,000 doses daily at community PODs, with delivery being solely dependent on receiving sufficient vaccine doses to meet its capability.
