From the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office:

At 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a male had been stabbed inside a residence at 2425 Niagara Road in the Town of Wheatfield.

Sheriff's deputies and EMS personnel responded to the scene to find one male victim with apparent stab wounds. First aid was immediately rendered to the injured male, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

A homicide investigation is being conducted by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office criminal investigation bureau. NCSO said it appears there was a dispute inside the residence that led to the stabbing.

NCSO said it believed this was an isolated incident and there was no danger to the community.

The victim's name was withheld pending notification to the family.

In an update Wednesday night, Sheriff Michael Filicetti announced the arrest of 35-year-old Leroy Cheek of the Town of Amherst. The victim was identified as 25-year-old Jesse Gonzalez Miranda of West Seneca. Cheek was charged with one count of murder in the second degree, a class A-I felony. Cheek was transported to the Niagara County Jail, where he is being held pending an arraignment.

Cheek is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
