UPDATED: Travel ban in City of Niagara Falls adjusted

•UPDATE: The traffic ban in the City of Niagara Falls has been reduced to a traffic advisory.

“Throughout the rest of the evening, if you do not need to travel, please stay home so our crews can continue to work on clearing the streets,” Mayor Robert Restaino said. “Plows now will begin hitting residential streets through the night. As a result, alternate parking restrictions have been suspended for this evening.”

A travel ban has been issued in the City of Niagara Falls.

“In consultation with public safety and public works officials, we are asking for no unnecessary travel,” Mayor Robert Restaino said.

Trash pickup in the city will be pushed back a day, per Modern Disposal.

The city had previously issued a travel advisory until 6 p.m. Monday.

•The Town of Niagara Police Department posted this message: “Due to deteriorating roadway conditions and the difficulty with municipal plows maintaining the roads, the Town of Niagara is instituting a ‘no unnecessary travel’ until further notice.

“Additional expected snow fall and winds will continue to make driving conditions hazardous.

“If you must travel please use caution!”

•The Lewiston Police Department posted: "There is a travel ADVISORY throughout the entirety of Niagara County. Residents are encouraged to restrict non-essential travel for the duration of today's snow event. Those with necessary travel are advised to plan accordingly and leave plenty of time for your commute."
