The Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday announced the team, in partnership with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, will again take part in the NHL’s “Hockey Fights Cancer” program during the team’s home game against the Seattle Kraken at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29. As part of an NHL-wide initiative to raise money and awareness for cancer research, the Sabres will host events throughout the night in support of local cancer patients and their charitable organizations. All fans attending the game will receive a Sabres “Hockey Fights Cancer” scarf.

“Our annual ‘Hockey Fights Cancer Night’ is always one of the most-anticipated games of our season,” said Rich Jureller, Sabres vice president of community relations. “This year, we look forward to welcoming the Seattle Kraken for their inaugural visit to Buffalo, as we come together to honor all of those whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Since 1898, our community has been fortunate to have Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the nation’s leading cancer hospitals, in our own backyard. We are very proud to support their outstanding work and honor those they serve. We encourage all Sabres fans to assist in any way they can.”

Fans attending the game will have an opportunity to participate in the “Autographed Hat Surprise” sale. For a $25 donation to the Sabres Foundation, fans will receive a Sabres “Hockey Fights Cancer” autographed hat. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Wives and girlfriends of Sabres players will be on hand to assist with the sale. Fans at home will also have the ability to purchase “Hockey Fights Cancer” hats and scarves. Details will be available throughout the evening on the Sabres game broadcast.

“Partnering with the Buffalo Sabres for ‘Hockey Fights Cancer Night’ allows us to reflect on how far we’ve come as an organization, and spotlight our community as we rally together for those affected by this devastating disease,” said Candace Johnson, Ph.D., Roswell Park President and CEO. “The awareness and support brought through this partnership brings us one step closer to a world where people no longer have to fear a cancer diagnosis.”

An online auction featuring unique Sabres autographed merchandise and experiences will be running this week at Sabres.com/Auctions. This auction will start at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, and close at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, with all proceeds benefitting Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

To commemorate the night, all Sabres players will wear lavender “Hockey Fights Cancer”-themed jerseys and use sticks with lavender tape during warmups. The jerseys will be auctioned off at Sabres.com/Auctions immediately following the game. Sabres coaches and broadcasters will be wearing commemorative “Hockey Fights Cancer,” ties and there will be a ceremonial puck drop before the game, so fans are strongly encouraged to be in their seats early.

Throughout the concourse, fans will be able to pick up and fill out a “I fight for” placard, which will be held up at a designated time during the second period.

Tickets to the game are still available at www.Sabres.com/tickets.

“Hockey Fights Cancer” is an initiative founded in December 1998 by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association to raise money and awareness for hockey's most important fight. To date, the “Hockey Fights Cancer” programs of the National Hockey League Foundation (in the U.S.) and the NHL Foundation (in Canada), along with NHL supporters and fans, have donated more than $16 million to support the cancer programs of national and local cancer research institutions, children's hospitals, player charities and local charities.
