The Big Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series will make its return to the Big R for the 37th edition of the Summer Nationals on Wednesday, Aug. 24. The 2022 edition of the Summer Nationals will be a 75-lap feature for “The Beasts of the Northeast.” Thursday, Aug. 25, will be used as a rain date, if needed.

In 2021, Savannah’s “Super” Matt Sheppard won the 36th Summer Nationals, his second triumph in the event in four seasons. Sheppard won over Peter Britten, Stewart Friesen, Mike Mahaney and 2021 Ransomville Speedway Krown Undercoating Modified co-champion Erick Rudolph. Sheppard’s win at Ransomville helped him win his unprecedented eighth Super DIRTcar Series championship.

The Super DIRTcar Series has a long history of racing at the “Big R.” Ransomville has been on the schedule since 1972 when the series originated. The top modified drivers from the northeast are expected to be in attendance at the historic Niagara County oval.

As part of the Summer Nationals, the second annual Mike Bonesky Memorial for the Investor’s Service Sportsman will take place. Bonesky was a longtime writer in both the Gater Racing News and the Area Auto Racing News after spending time behind the wheel of a racecar. Bonesky was also an avid race fan and crew member for Ryan Susice, as well as his grandson’s racing efforts at the “Little R” on Thursday nights. The inaugural race last season saw Scott Kerwin take home the checkered flag. Look for the Bonesky Memorial to be one of the more lucrative races in the division throughout the region.

Ransomville Speedway is located on Braley Road in the hamlet of Ransomville. “The Big R” is a 3/8th-mile DIRTcar-sanctioned facility that is the “Home of the Summer Nationals.” Ransomville also features a 1/16th-mile Go-Kart track for action on the “Little R” on Thursday nights.
