Windham-Campbell prize-winner brings global literary perspective to Buffalo

Just Buffalo Literary Center welcomes novelist and essayist Aminatta Forna to Buffalo this Thursday for a lecture and conversation at Kleinhans Music Hall. The event begins at 8 p.m., with doors at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at justbuffalo.org.

Forna is the author of six books – including the novel “The Memory of Love” and the recently released essay collection “The Window Seat: Notes from a Life in Motion” – and winner of the Commonwealth Prize for Fiction. Born in Scotland and raised in Sierra Leone and Great Britain, Forna also spent periods of her childhood in Iran, Thailand and Zambia.

“We’ve been excited about Forna’s work for a long time, and feel lucky to bring her to BABEL so soon after the release of her stunning essay collection," said Barbara Cole, Just Buffalo's artistic director.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for entry into Kleinhans, and masks must be worn indoors. In addition, capacity at Kleinhans will be limited to allow for social distancing between groups. All ticketholders will also receive access to a livestream recording of the event, allowing for virtual attendance and flexibility for those unable to attend in-person for any reason.

Tickets, which also include a link to watch virtually, are available to the general public for $40; $35 with library card; $10 with student ID. Patron VIP tickets, which include an author reception before the event, are $100. Season subscriptions for all four 2021-22 BABEL events, featuring Chang-rae Lee, Alison Bechdel and Colson Whitehead, in addition to Forna, are also on sale through Oct. 14.
