Grand Island Post 1346 American Legion is remembering the tragedy of 9/11 this weekend by holding a Patriot Day poppy drive in memory of the lives that were lost 20 years ago. The poppy drive will be a daylong event on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10 and 11. Donations are being accepted to purchase poppies that will help all local veterans, said Post Judge Advocate Joe Synakowski, who designed and produced this poster.

The American Legion raises funds for scholarships and charitable organizations such as the Grand Island Neighbors Foundation. The post commander is Ray DeGlopper.

Look for the poppies at Tops Friendly Markets, 2140 Grand Island Blvd.; Northwest Bank at 2300 Grand Island Blvd.; 7-Eleven, 1787 Love Road; and Gui’s Lumber and Lumber & Home Center, 1889 Whitehaven Road.
