The Buffalo Sabres on Thursday announced the signing of forward Casey Mittelstadt to a three-year contract with an average annual value of $2.5 million.

Mittelstadt ranked third among Sabres skaters in goals (10) and fourth in points (22) in 41 games played during the 2020-21 season. He recorded 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists) in 34 games for the University of Minnesota and was named to the 2016-17 Big Ten All-Rookie Team after his only season of collegiate hockey. Mittelstadt captured bronze medals for Team USA at the 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship and at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he led the tournament in points and was named tournament MVP.

The Buffalo Sabres also signed defenseman Henri Jokiharju to a three-year contract with an AAV of $2.5 million.

Jokiharju notched eight points (3/5) in 46 games for the Sabres in 2020-21 and tied for seventh among NHL defensemen in penalties taken per 60 minutes (0.14). He was one of four players to appear in all 69 games the Sabres played during his first full NHL season in 2019-20. Jokiharju has represented his native Finland at four major international tournaments, including gold medal-winning performances at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship, the 2019 IIHF World Championship and the 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship.
