Niagara County Legislature Majority Leader Randy Bradt on Monday warned residents of a scam that involves receiving a purported phone from Niagara County telling residents there has been a security breach in county government and asking them to verify personal information.

“Like so many of these scams, this is an attempt to obtain your personal information that can be used to steal your identity,” Bradt said. “Niagara County does not randomly call residents and ask for your personal information.”

Bradt said the scammers appear to have “spoofed” a legitimate Niagara County number. Bradt advised, if one receives a call and is unsure if it is legitimate, hang up and call the county’s public information office for assistance at 716-439-7241.
