Coronavirus stats for May 22

Niagara County

Niagara County’s Department of Health issued the following update on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County:

  • 15 new positive cases, for a total of 936 positives to date (isolations + recoveries + deaths)
  • 263 active cases (248 isolating at home, 15 in a hospital)
  • 614 recovered
  • 59 deaths (no change)
  • 9,151 people tested (source: https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/)

Quarantines, unlike isolations, are for people who are well and not showing symptoms, but may have been exposed to the virus. Right now, 213 people are in quarantine while 739 have completed quarantine.

Erie County

As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Erie County had a total of 5,313 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 58 on Grand Island and 2,209 in the City of Buffalo. To date, 38,086 people have been tested (14% positive), with 472 deaths attributed to the coronavirus. Also, 35,063 people have taken an antibody test (7.7% positive).
