Starting Saturday, July 17

On Saturday, July 17, the second annual Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) Buffalo begins, in partnership with KeyBank and the First Niagara Foundation, bringing together over 1,000 volunteers to serve 100 families in the Masten District with free home repairs.

The outreach kickoff event begins at 7:30 a.m. at All-High Stadium located behind Bennett High School (2885 Main St.). It event will feature welcoming remarks from Kawanza Humphrey, senior vice president with KeyBank; Mayor Byron Brown; and Masten District Councilman Ulysees Wingo.

The first outreach, in 2019, served over 350 families in the University District with free home repairs, including projects such as roofing, window installation, painting and carpentry. This year, EDOH plans to do the same, touching the Masten District in Buffalo with a ray of hope.

“It was an honor to serve the University District in 2019. We saw the local community, businesses and churches show up in a mighty way – truly proving that Buffalo is the City of Good Neighbors,” said Stephen Tybor III, EDOH president and CEO. “I’m proud to call this city home, even more so after seeing the impact of this outreach. We are beyond excited to be in the Masten District this year, and I cannot wait to see how the community comes together to love and serve those in need once again.”

Volunteers from Buffalo, the surrounding area, and 30 states are coming together to work in the Masten District. Additionally, over 60 local churches and businesses, including The Buffalo Bills Foundation, The Chapel, The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, and Times Square Church, are partnering in the efforts, providing materials, volunteers, professional crews and additional resources.

“From the opening of Northland Workforce Training Center to recent expansion at Erie County Medical Center and the opening of KeyBank’s East Delavan branch, there are so many transformative things happening in Buffalo’s Masten District and on the east side,” Humphrey said. “We are proud to partner with Eight Days of Hope and bring the revitalization happening across the east side to our neighbors in the Masten District.”

EDOH is headquartered in Tupelo, Mississippi, with a northeastern satellite in Buffalo. The organization said it is excited to continue this outreach and is looking forward to seeing the restoration that it brings in the years to come.

Except for a small staff, Eight Days of Hope is an all-volunteer organization. It serves all people regardless of race, gender, religion or ethnicity. Visit www.eightdaysofhope.com for more information, to provide financial support, or to volunteer.
