Lewiston Police Explorers Post 145 will hold an open house from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at the Lewiston Police Department, 4059 Creek Road, Youngstown (Lewiston-Porter campus). Food will be provided.

The Lewiston Explorers operate on a biweekly schedule for two hours per meeting/training event. Ages for the program range from 14 to 20.

During the open house, instructors will answer any and all questions future Explorers and/or parents have concerning the program. They will go over the yearlong syllabus, expectations of Explorers, and how the program can help those interested in leadership, law enforcement and/or criminal justice.

This year, the program is trying something new by hosting a three-day Lewiston Police basic training event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 26-28. At this event, Explorers will learn the foundation of what they will learn throughout their time in the program. By the end of the three days, they will have a working knowledge of basic patrol functions including penal law, vehicle and traffic law, NY Article 35, criminal procedure law, traffic stops, verbal judo techniques, handcuffing techniques, range and weapon safety. At the conclusion of their basic training, they will have a stronger base knowledge of law enforcement and criminal justice and be CPR-certified, which will enable them to help in the community, if needed.

For more information, contact Officer Brandon Hall at 716-754-8477 or [email protected] (email is preferred). Applications can be picked up at the Lewiston Police Department or by email.
