NFMMC cuts ribbon on new 3-D mammography machine

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center held a ribbon-cutting Thursday to celebrate the new GE Senographe 3D Pristina mammography machine located at Memorial’s Summit Healthplex, 6934 Williams Road, Niagara Falls.

A press release stated, “The new machine offers the latest and greatest in mammography, specifically designed by women for optimal comfort and ultimately a more accurate and successful exam. In addition, the Pristina is the lowest-dose machine in Niagara County according to Kristen Dixon, account manager, representing GE Healthcare.

“We now have the most state-of-the-art equipment available in the county,” said Dr. Mark Perry, Memorial’s chief of diagnostic imaging. “Benefiting all referring physicians and patients, leading to a more accurate diagnosis.”

The importance of such technology was emphasized by Dr. Safa Lohrasbi who was on hand for the celebration. Lohrasbi provides obstetric and gynecologic care at Memorial’s OB/GYN Center and knows first-hand what this means for the community.

“1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer,” Lohrasbi said. “This is an important step towards making life saving treatments more accessible to the women of Niagara County.”

Memorial’s Summit Healthplex is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. No appointment is necessary for mammograms. For more information, call 716-298-5872.
