Congressman Brian Higgins on Thursday applauded action by President Joe Biden to send 1 million doses of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine to Canada.

He said, “Both the United States and Canada have made tremendous progress in fighting COVID in a short period of time, but there is still work to do to get everyone fully vaccinated. Continued action by the United States to share vaccines with our Canadian friends will serve to expedite a return to normalcy and save lives. I applaud the Biden administration’s leadership throughout the pandemic, and we look forward to coming together again with our neighbors to the north.”

During the White House coronavirus briefing, COVID-19 Response Coordinator Jeffrey Zients confirmed the U.S. doses would land in Canada Thursday.

As the House representative for Buffalo and Niagara Falls, Higgins serves as co-chair of both the northern border caucus and the Canada-U.S. interparliamentary group. In May, he asked New York state to make COVID-19 vaccines available to Canadian residents as a way to help end the pandemic globally and assist communities on both sides of the border with recovery.
