Event features Peter Gizzi, Laura Marris, Shilpa Ray & Adam Zyglis

Just Buffalo Literary Center’s “Silo City Reading Series” returns to Silo City Row on July 31 for an evening of poetry by Peter Gizzi and Laura Marris; live music by Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Shilpa Ray; and an art installation by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Adam Zyglis.

The event takes place in Marine A, a 130-foot abandoned grain silo behind Duende at Silo City, 85 Silo City Row. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the event at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, though capacity is limited and advance registration (with assertion of COVID-19 vaccination) is required. Temperature checks will be conducted upon arrival. Books will be available for purchase on-site and online by Fitz Books.

“Having to pause the Silo City readings last year was difficult, though necessary. We can’t wait to welcome these remarkable talents to the most unique venue in all of Buffalo to be healed, to be wowed, and to simply be together,” said Noah Falck, series curator and Just Buffalo’s education director. “Peter Gizzi is one of poetry’s most generous and devoted practitioners.”

His book, “Archeophonics,” was a finalist for the 2016 National Book Award.

Joining Gizzi on the poetry billing is Buffalo poet and translator Laura Marris, whose translation of Camus’s “The Plague” will be published later this year.

“I can’t think of a better way to return to the world,” Falck said.

Featured artists for the Aug. 28 and Sept. 25 “Silo City Reading Series” events will be announced later this summer. For more information or to register for the July 31 event, visit justbuffalo.org.
