Family Promise of Western New York, an emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness, is getting a facelift courtesy of Casey Milbrand, local Buffalo artist and muralist.

Milbrand, who is known for his iconic precision painted lines, typographical style and three-dimensional work, is currently painting a mural in the Family Promise shelter building around the concept of hope.

The mural is part of Family Promise's “Light our Future” campaign to celebrate the completion of critical renovations last summer which allowed the shelter to double in size.

"We are thrilled to be working with Casey on this project," said Luanne Firestone, executive director of Family Promise of WNY. "Casey is creating a message of hope that will not only be visually beautiful, but will uplift the families we serve. The mission of Family Promise is to help families find their way back home, but our vision is to build a community that wraps homeless children and their families in hope. This mural is a great demonstration of living into that vision!"

Milbrand said, “When my ‘Let Hope Shine Through’ mural concept was chosen for Family Promise of WNY many months ago, I didn’t know what a personal impact it would have on my life and how much painting it would mean to me. I am so grateful to work with such an amazing organization and to have met the amazing families that currently call it home! There is so much hope that fills the Family Promise of WNY space from the moment you walk in the door, and so I’m hoping my mural captures that feeling.”

In 2016, Milbrand unveiled the Queen City’s iconic “Greetings from Buffalo” mural, which has become the go-to place for tourists and residents alike who are looking for the perfect selfie to show off their Buffalove. His other colorful murals include the “Lookin’ Good” mural on Hertel Avenue, the “As Is” PRIDE mural at D’Youville College, and the “Let’s Fall in Love” mural on Old Falls Street in Niagara Falls. His most recent mural, "I Just Want You To Know Who I Am," is a tribute to the Goo Goo Dolls located on Broadway.

Family Promise of WNY is currently celebrating 25 years serving this community. Family Promise of WNY is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community-driven organization that strives to live a mission of keeping families experiencing homelessness together by offering emergency housing and compassionate support as they work to find their way back home.
