Jennifer Leah Buckley, a resident of Grand Island for 14 years, passed away on Jan. 14, 2021, after a long battle with an illness. Born on Aug. 6, 1964, she passed too soon at the age of 56. She is survived by her mother, Janice Piepke of Umatilla, Florida; her partner, Dean Morakis of Grand Island; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Many of you will remember her smiling face, and cheerful demeanor, when she was working as an election inspector at the highway garage during regular elections and primaries, and at the visitor’s center during early elections.

She graduated from the University at Buffalo in 2003 with a BA in psychology. Buckley worked for this newspaper, Niagara Frontier Publications, as a major account executive from 2011-19. She also worked for the Town of Grand Island, and prior to that, Niagara Strait Technologies, Door Specialties, Best Technologies, Caruso Graphics and UB Health Education.

Buckley was a member of the Grand Island Republican Committee, Grand Island Rod and Gun Club, Holimont Phoenix Adaptive program, Public Awareness Outreach, and the Greater Buffalo Junior Chamber of Commerce.

She enjoyed snow skiing, gardening, and home remodeling, however, she was not able to participate in these activities over the past few years due to her illness.

There will be a celebration her life on June 12. Contact Dean at 716-774-1000 for details.
