Over the past several months, Community Missions sold 1,000 raffle tickets for a 2021 Chevrolet Corvette as a fundraiser for its crisis and community services. Jeff Tornabene of Niagara Falls had his name drawn, and picked up his Corvette last week.

“It still doesn’t seem real; I’m speechless,” Tornabene said on the day he received his new ride, which also happened to be his birthday.

Tornabene’s wife, Annemarie, saw a Facebook post from a friend that raffle tickets were available in December. She thought two tickets would make for a good Christmas present for Jeff, a self-proclaimed “car guy.”

“Of all the donations and raffles I’ve ever entered, I’ve never won more than $100,” he said. “This was the best donation ever!”

The car, valued at more than $80,000, features a red exterior, black 3LT trim package, a Z51 performance package, eight-speed automatic transmission, and removable top.

The raffle was conducted in conjunction with General Motors, United Auto Workers, West Herr Auto Group, and Leadership Niagara’s Team Turbo 6. The event raised more than $23,000 for the agency’s crisis and community services, including the Community Kitchen, food pantry, clothes closet and emergency housing shelter.

“This raffle has brought so much excitement to Community Missions,” said Christian Hoffman, vice president of public relations and development. “We are excited for Jeff, and are so appreciative of all the volunteers and partners that made this happen. We are also so thankful to all those that participated in this year’s raffle. These are much-needed funds for our organization after a busy year.”

Since its founding in 1925, Community Missions has provided a unique blend of referral, crisis, community support and residential services for youth and adults. In 2020, Community Missions provided more than 197,000 meals and over 11,500 nights of care to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Additional agency programs serve adults and youth with psychiatric disabilities, parolees, at-risk youth and other underserved populations in both residential and recovery-oriented settings.
