Empire State Association of Assisted Living Executive Director Lisa Newcomb issued the following statement Wednesday:

“On behalf of the more than 30,000 senior New Yorkers we serve, The Empire State Association of Assisted Living (ESAAL) is encouraged by the substantial progress being made by Pfizer, and others, toward a safe and effective vaccine for COVID-19.

“Both the federal and New York state governments have confirmed that residents in assisted living communities, as well as the frontline health care workers and staff that serve them, will be among the top priorities in receiving vaccinations once they are approved and available. ESAAL supports this decision and stands ready to work closely and cooperatively with our state and federal governments to rapidly roll out a vaccination program to help protect our most vulnerable members of society first from this terrible virus.

“As we await announcement of final FDA approval, ESAAL and its 300 member facilities remain steadfast in our commitment to protecting the health and safety of our residents and staff, and will continue to follow our comprehensive safety and testing protocols.”
