Coronavirus: Niagara, Erie counties update for May 1

The Niagara County Department of Health issued the following update on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County: “We regretfully report one new death of a Niagara County resident, a 92-year-old female with underlying health conditions. We send our deepest sympathies to her family and friends.”

The rest of the update is as follows:

  • 28 new positive cases, for a total of 488 positives to date (isolations + recoveries + deaths)
  • 229 in isolation (206 isolating at home, 23 in hospital isolation)
  • 234 recovered
  • 25 deaths
  • 2,544 people tested (source: https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/)

Quarantines, unlike isolations, are for people who are well and not showing symptoms, but may have been exposed to the virus. Right now, 192 people are in quarantine and 451 have completed quarantine.

Erie County

As of 2 p.m. Thursday, Erie County had a total of 3,410 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 47 on Grand Island and 1,340 in the City of Buffalo. To date, 16,104 people have been tested, with 266 deaths attributed to the coronavirus.
