The following information was submitted by the Office of Mayor Robert Restaino:

At approximately 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, the Niagara Falls Police Department received a report of an injury accident in the 2700 block of Niagara Street. A dump truck carrying a load of construction debris was heading east on Niagara Street when it swerved to avoid a vehicle turning off 27th Street.

The driver lost control of the truck, which flipped and came to rest on its side. A 40-year-old male was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of head and leg injuries. The driver is currently in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

The 44-year-old male passenger in the truck was able to extricate himself. He was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for shoulder pain.

According to reports, it does not appear either occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

A portion of Niagara Street was closed for almost five hours while the crash was investigated, and the debris and vehicle were removed from the scene. The Crash Management Team is continuing this investigation, and charges are pending.
