Grand Island High School’s Academy of Finance is helping students become college, career and future ready through industry-specific curricula and work-based learning experiences, including internships. We work directly with companies to create internship programs that have a lasting impact on students, providing them with invaluable opportunities to explore career options. This year, our academy is in search of 13 paid internships for our Class of 2022 cohort.

When businesses invest in internships, they are investing in futures. It’s a great way to give back to the community. By supporting internships for AOF students, businesses can take a direct role in schools:

√ By offering educational enhancements and a bridge to the business and professional world for students

√ By helping to shape a new generation of worldly, diverse, highly trained and versatile professionals

√ By utilizing temporary employees during critical periods

√ By recruiting future employees

√ By helping create a motivated, educated workforce

Are you wondering what is involved in sponsoring an intern? Here are some of the requirements:

√ Lasts six to 10 weeks

√ Students should be compensated for their time while at the internship

√ Provide the intern with a workplace supervisor who will guide the student through the work experience

√ Challenge the intern to think and solve problems

We will also be launching our business mentor program in fall 2021. We are seeking business professionals to develop critical social skills, encourage academic achievement and provide positive, life-enriching experience for students. Mentors will meet with a small group of academy students four times a year on school grounds to discuss important career-related topics and develop leadership skills. Ideally we would like to tap into our Grand Island alumni and Grand Island businesses and residents.

At the conclusion of these work-based learning experiences, students will feel empowered and confident in making their marks on the fastest growing industries, while having the support of mentors to guide them through the process and help shape their paths.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a mentor, sponsoring an intern or joining our advisory board, please contact Academy Director Amy Boutet at [email protected].
