Free events encourage sobriety

The youth pro-social program of Spectrum Health and Human Services is offering some free outdoor experiences for youth and young adults who are trying to quit or reduce their drug or alcohol use. There are separate group activities for teens 16 and 17 years or age and young adults from 18 to 30 years of age.

Planned for September are outings to:

  • Private tour of Hawk Creek Wildlife Center in East Aurora on Sept. 8;
  • A visit to the Buffalo Zoo on Sept. 24; and
  • A hike at Letchworth State Park on Sept. 30.

All events are outdoors; participants will be physically distanced and are expected to wear a face mask. Trained youth peer advocates/peer counselors lead the events. Spectrum Health and Human Services said these are sober and social experiences that encourage recovery, camaraderie and support.

In the event of unpleasant weather or COVID-19 interference, the youth pro-social team will plan virtual activities to use technology for social engagement. For more information, call 716-539-5507.
