Sat, Feb 29th 2020 07:00 am

Catherine (Shearer) White, 55, of the Town of Knox, near Altamont, New York, passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany, surrounded by her loving family on Feb. 6, 2020, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964, Catherine graduated from Voorheesville (New York) High School, and Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, with a Bachelor of Arts in finance. She was a beloved and supportive wife to her husband of almost 35 years, Eric, and she dedicated her life to raising and nurturing their three children, David, Christopher and Jodi. A gentle and caring person with beautiful, easy smile, she liked making life better for others and helping those in need. She stayed active in various community activities including the Altar Guild and Vestry over the years at both Christ Church, Duanesburg, New York, and more recently, St. Boniface in Guilderland, New York. She enjoyed crafts, in particular cross stitch and sewing, as well as walks in the woods, swimming, kayaking, and camping throughout the Adirondacks, especially at their cabin on Pine Lake, Caroga.

Cathy had significant ties to Grand Island. Her husband, Eric, was raised on Grand Island, and their son Christopher resides here today. Eric’s parents continued to live on the Island until their passing, providing Cathy, Eric and family the ideal weekend destination as avid fans and Buffalo Bills season ticket holders (from Albany) for many years. Grand Island continues to also be the home of her sister-in-law Kathy (Tim) Norton, and brother-in-law Randy (Peg) White, and where many of her nephews and nieces were also raised (Ryan, Patrick, Meggie, Katie Grace and Brigid White).

She is survived by her husband Eric; their three children David (Victoria) of Longmont Colorado, Christopher of Grand Island, Jodi (Wyatt) Moller also of Knox; as well as her parents, Doug and Judy Shearer of North Port, Florida; sister Laura (John) Senecal, brother Wayne (Eliz), Andrew (Melissa) and Matt (Kathy), sister-in-law Kathy (Tim) Norton and brother-in-law Randy (Peg) White as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends. She was loved by all.

Calling hours were held Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont (518-861-6611), and a Memorial Service at St. Boniface Episcopal Church in Guilderland on Thursday, Feb. 13. Donations may be made in her name to St. Boniface Episcopal Church.
