Virtual wine tasting & culinary experience ‘Wine & Meatballs with Graycliff’ is Jan. 30

Graycliff announced a fundraising event that will include a virtual wine tasting experience with Mark Fornatale, Italian portfolio manager at Skurnik Wine & Spirits, plus a layer of culinary education led by Tom and Caitlin Moriarty of Moriarty Meats. “Get Sauced! Wine & Meatballs With Graycliff” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, with wine/meatball pick up available at two locations: Graycliff (Derby) and Moriarty Meats (Buffalo) Jan. 28-30. All information is available at one.bidpal.net/getsauced, where one can also purchase a ticket (wine only, or wine with meatballs) now through noon Thursday, Jan. 21.

Each ticket purchase includes three bottles of premium Italian wine and access to the Zoom event at 7 p.m. Jan. 30, where Mark Fornatale of Skurnik Wine & Spirits will walk patrons through each bottle – one white and two red. These wines are all distributed by Skurnik and have been made available locally through the generosity of the Premier Group. Full information on each bottle can be found at one.bidpal.net/getsauced.

Also available is the add-on option of house-made meatballs and sauce from Moriarty Meats. The wine tasting program will be complimented by a cooking demonstration led by Tom and Caitlin Moriarty. The meatballs are made with pork and beef with dairy-free and gluten-free batches available upon request. Also included in the program on Jan. 30 will be video content related to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Graycliff.

Because of the nature of the event, there is the option to not open all three bottles that night – one can always take in the information and sip at their own pace. The same holds true for the food, which can be prepared and enjoyed that evening with one’s favorite pasta, or put in the freezer for a delicious meal on another occasion.

Graycliff Executive Director Anna Kaplan said, “This is a fun and low-pressure way to taste excellent wine, learn something new, and support local business and Graycliff at the same time. There will, of course, be Graycliff-related content interspersed – a fantastic opportunity to have a peek inside the recently restored interior of the main house. It’s sure to be an entertaining and educational way to spend a Saturday evening at home – wine, meatballs, and inspiring architecture, how can you go wrong?!”

Skurnik Wines & Spirits is an importer and distributor of fine wines and spirits headquartered in the heart of New York City.

Moriarty Meats is a whole animal butcher shop located at 1650 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, sourcing local meats and inspired by traditional European butcheries.

Graycliff is the summer home of Isabelle and Darwin D. Martin, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1926 and built between 1927 and 1931. Graycliff is located at 6472 Old Lakeshore Road, in Derby. The nonprofit Graycliff Conservancy Inc., a 501(c)(3), was founded in 1997 to acquire, preserve and restore the property – the Wright-designed Graycliff. A New York State Landmark, Graycliff is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now open for tours with a private tour program offered Friday through Sunday.
