Virtual fundraiser to benefit Carnegie Art Center; online Thursday, Dec. 3, until Sunday, Dec. 6

Join the Carnegie Art Center as it celebrates the sixth annual “Art Off The Wall” exhibition and fundraiser to benefit the North Tonawanda venue. This year’s virtual event will be online from Thursday, Dec. 3, until Sunday, Dec. 6, and will give visitors of the online event a unique opportunity to purchase original 5-by-7-inch artwork. Local artists supporting the Carnegie Art Center have generously donated all works priced at $20 each for the event.

For an additional $20 donation fee online, attendees may purchase a “FAST PASS,” which will allow them to gain entry to the online event on Thursday, Dec. 3, one day earlier than general admission. This early admission gives patrons a better chance of securing their favorite pieces of artwork and allows them to be the first bidder in the online auction. There are a limited number of “FAST PASSES” available on the center’s website at www.carnegieartcenter.org.

The online event will be available for the general public for three days starting on the morning of Friday, Dec. 4. It will end at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The center may also allow in-person viewing of the artwork the week of the online event, depending on the current restrictions and guidelines set by the state. Visit its Facebook page or website for updates regarding in-person viewing.

Also, a fine art silent auction returns for its fourth year at the event. This year’s theme, “Cigar Box Art,” includes local and national award-winning artists auctioning an original artwork created from an antique cigar box. Proceeds will be split 50/50 between the artists and the center. The highest bidder of each box at 7 p.m. Sunday will win the artwork.

This year’s cigar box silent auction artists include: Madeline Bartley, Michael Beam, Beverly DiPalma, Cornelia Dohse Peck, Bobby Griffiths , Robert Hirsch, Eva Huber, George Afedzi Hughes, Jayne Hughes, Christopher Kameck, Bethany Krull, Lorrie Love, Thomas Matyas, Gerald Mead, Ginny O'Brien, Mike Basinski , Lowell Merritt, Ruby Merritt, Cindi O'Mara, Nancy J. Parisi, Dennis Stierer, Alexa Wajed, Mek Wajed, Janna Willoughby-lohr, Rosemary Williams and Necole Zayatz.

The link to the online auction will be shared through the center’s e-newsletter, social media pages and will be posted on its website, www.carnegieartcenter.org, from Dec. 3-6. Note: only those with a prepurchased “FAST PASS” will have early access to the online auction.

All purchased artwork from the online event can be picked up or shipped to each purchaser.

‘Art Off The Wall’

In 2015, "Art Off The Wall" marked the reopening of the Carnegie Art Center. Today, this event benefits the local art community while raising funds for the site.

All artwork will be posted online without the benefit of artist signatures until after purchase. One’s favorite artwork displayed at the show could be the work of a college student or an established artist.

Aspiring collectors are given a rare opportunity to plunge into the purchase of their first “real” piece of art without breaking the bank. Established art collectors can test their palettes by learning if they have purchased their favorite artist or if they've “discovered” a new talent. $20 will buy one a sketch, watercolor, acrylic, oil, collage and other artist offerings.

All proceeds benefit the Carnegie Art Center and help strengthen its mission to provide programs and events that promote the arts-at-large within the local communities.

The Carnegie Art Center, at 240 Goundry St., is located in a structure built in 1904 as the City of North Tonawanda’s public library and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Since 1976, it has been operating as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation offering the community art exhibitions, art and dance classes, as well as support to artists and art organizations.
