Coronavirus stats for May 8

Niagara County

The Niagara County Department of Health issued the following update on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County:

  • 24 new positive cases, for a total of 664 positives to date (isolations + recoveries + deaths)
  • 290 active cases (273 isolating at home, 17 in a hospital)
  • 332 recovered
  • 42 deaths (No change)
  • 4,387 people tested (source: https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/)

Quarantines, unlike isolations, are for people who are well and not showing symptoms, but may have been exposed to the virus. Right now, 205 people are in quarantine and 538 have completed quarantine.

Erie County

As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Erie County had a total of 4,161 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 47 on Grand Island and 1,704 in the City of Buffalo. To date, 23,471 people have been tested, with 346 deaths attributed to the coronavirus.
