Initiative seeks to raise nearly one-third of organization’s annual operating budget to serve community’s poor & homeless

On Thursday, the Buffalo City Mission announced the launch of its annual fall fundraising campaign, a significant annual initiative to advance its work in providing critical programs and services for the homeless of Buffalo.

Through this year’s fall campaign, the City Mission asks for community support to help raise $2.34 million between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 – representing 30% of the organization’s annual operating budget. The campaign is a significant annual fundraiser that helps the agency to provide the finances and resources necessary to sustain its year-round work in saving the poor and homeless.

“Our annual fall campaign is a significant time where we once again look to the generosity of this special community,” said Stuart Harper, CEO and executive director of the Buffalo City Mission. “In this unprecedented and challenging year, we have been blessed by a steady outpouring of support from our neighbors. Now is the time to set our sights forward, and our target $2.34 million will enable us to continue providing the services and programs that can help transform the lives of our region’s less-fortunate.”

“Homelessness continues to be a serious and unchecked blight in our area,” Harper added. “This has been further impacted by COVID-19 pandemic. In a recent report, the Homeless Alliance of Western New York cited that more than 5,200 people experienced homelessness in the past year. Through our fall campaign, we have an opportunity to raise critical funds that provide programs and services available for every individual that comes through our doors.”

Last year, the City Mission served 120,462 meals and provided 66,242 safe nights of sleep shelter. As the region’s largest homeless shelter, the organization stands resolute in its role as a center of hope, restoration and support – working with the community, for the betterment of every neighbor in need.

“Each of us has the power to change lives,” Harper said. “The need today is incredibly important. Every contribution makes a difference. Together, we can continue to help put others on a path to hope and renewal.”
