Sat, Oct 3rd 2020 07:00 am

The first Grand Island business dedicated to the growing sport of competitive axe-throwing is up and throwing.

Grand Throw House on Lang Boulevard ceremonially opened last week with a ribbon-cutting held by the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce.

Axe throwing is a growing sport, according to owners, that is fast, safe, and offers “therapeutic stress relief for all.”

“We started throwing together about a year ago and have been travelling extensively as competitive axe-throwers ever since,” said owners Stephanie Foster and Ashley Thompson. “We have experienced many venues and have managed a location in Canada for about two years. We are both passionate about the sport and building the axe community. We want our venue to foster the positivity the sport breeds and encompass all our favorite aspects of the venues we have had the pleasure of throwing in.”

The Grand Throw House venue will follow World Axe Throwing League official standards and will have: five bays, two targets per bay, and a capacity of 240 guests.

The business anticipates hosing league nights consisting of seven weeks of round robin games and the eighth week of a playoff; as well as event bookings such as bachelor/bachelorette, birthdays, corporate team building, etc.
