US Service Academy representatives to provide admission information at virtual meeting on Oct. 7

Congressman Brian Higgins and representatives from the office of U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand are hosting Service Academy Night 2020, a virtual opportunity for high school students, families, school administrators and counselors to learn more about service academy institutions, programs and the application process.

Service Academy Night will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Coast Guard Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Air Force Academy and The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs will provide presentation starting promptly at 6 p.m., followed by a Q&A session for students and parents.

Service Academy appointments are made by the president of the United States based on congressional and/or military nominations. Each year, Gillibrand and Higgins appoint academy advisory boards, made up of Western New York veterans and community leaders, to interview all applicants and make recommendations.

Information about the application and nomination process can be found on Gillibrand’s website at: https://www.gillibrand.senate.gov/help/academy-nominations and Higgins’ website at: https://higgins.house.gov/services/military-academy-nominations/military-academy-nominations-print-form.

Students, parents and school officials interested in participating in the virtual Service Academy Night presentation should RSVP to [email protected]. Those who are registered will receive a Zoom link to the event on Oct. 7.
