Organization plans to continue providing funding to Niagara Region agencies throughout COVID-19 pandemic

United Way of Greater Niagara (UWGN) on Friday announced the launch of its 2020 campaign, with Nicolas Maniccia (KeyBank) and Denise Abbott (DeGraff Medical Park) as this year’s campaign co-chairs. Running through Nov. 30, funds raised throughout the campaign will continue to support 29 agencies focused on a spectrum of human services throughout the Niagara Region.

“From emergency child care centers to food pantries, United Way of Greater Niagara has been at the forefront of supporting our community in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said UWGN labor co-chair Denise Abbott. “Because of funding provided by United Way, agencies that are integral to the area have been able to maintain operations and help those who needed it most during this difficult period. In a time of unprecedented community need, UWGN has greatly assisted our local agencies in providing support for a variety of critical issues, including mental health; access to child care; and food and shelter, among many others.”

“With the 2020 campaign, it’s our hope to continue raising funds that will directly impact the residents of Niagara County who benefit from a wide range of programs and services throughout Niagara Falls, Lockport, Tonawanda and North Tonawanda,” said co-chair Nicolas Maniccia. “It’s critical that United Way can continue empowering our region and helping Niagara County residents navigate this uncertain time.”

“As we enter into a new campaign season, it remains the core mission of United Way of Greater Niagara to support programs that focus on the education, health and well-being of the Niagara community,” said Robert Kazeangin, chairman of the United Way of Greater Niagara board. “Now, with the COVID-19 pandemic affecting every layer of our society, it’s especially paramount that this year’s campaign allows us to continue serving the needs of those who need it most.”

United Way of Greater Niagara currently serves 29 organizations throughout Niagara County.
