Coronavirus Niagara and Erie counties update for May 5

Niagara County

The Niagara County Department of Health issued the following update on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County: “We regretfully report the deaths of six Niagara County residents. We send our deepest sympathies to their family and friends.”

The deceased include:

  • A 61-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • A 94-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • An 83-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • An 89-year-old male with underlying health conditions
  • A 90-year-old male with underlying health conditions
  • A 62-year-old male with underlying health conditions

The rest of the update is as follows:

  • 41 new positive cases, for a total of 570 positives to date (isolations + recoveries + deaths)
  • 249 active cases (230 isolating at home, 19 in a hospital)
  • 287 recovered
  • 34 deaths

Erie County

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, Erie County had a total of 3,749 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 48 on Grand Island and 1,480 in the City of Buffalo. To date, 19,190 people have been tested, with 308 deaths attributed to the coronavirus.
