A power failure on Comstock Road temporarily knocked off the Swann Road substation, leaving more than 4,500 River Region locations without electricity Wednesday morning.

Right before 1 p.m., National Grid spokesman David Bertola said, “A broken utility pole caused an issue with a transmission line that caused outages in the areas around and including portions of Lewiston and Porter.

“While we’re not sure why the pole broke, it has been repaired and power has been restored to all customers.

“It’s my understanding that there are a lot of overgrown trees in the area where the repair was made and one may have fallen onto a transmission line, breaking the pole.”

The Village of Lewiston Department of Public Works building was among those without power. Superintendent Larry Wills said it was his understanding the power outage was intermittent from Route 31 down to Lake Ontario, and all the way out into Cambria.

Wills said National Grid’s backup power sources were activated as crews worked to repair the primary electrical origin points.
