Niagara County Legislator Irene Myers said the Niagara County Department of Public Works will begin work to replace the Porter Center Road Bridge over 6 Mile Creek in the Town of Porter next week. The bridge, located just south of Braley Road, will be closed starting Friday, July 31.

“The existing concrete structure has reached the end of its useful life and I’m thankful that DPW planned accordingly for its replacement,” Myers said. “I know the bridge closing may create some inconvenience for motorists, but I ask the public to be patient as the county undertakes this very necessary replacement project.”

Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal said the existing concrete structure will be replaced with a new four-sided precast concrete box. The project is funded with the help of New York State’s Bridge NY program.

“We’ve had a good season thus far for road and bridge work and I thank our team and our contractors for keeping us on schedule,” he said. “Our expectation is that this bridge project will be completed on or before Oct. 30.”
