May 12, 1937, to Feb. 23, 2020

After a 12-year battle against multiple myeloma, Louise Whitworth Sims passed away peacefully under the care of Hospice.

Sims was born in Niagara Falls to James A. and Blanche Daggett Whitworth. She attended grade school in Niagara Falls and Lewiston. After graduating from Lewiston-Porter High School, she attended Mt. Holyoke College, and later Buffalo State Teachers College. Sims taught fourth grade at Lew-Port. When Artpark opened in Lewiston, she worked there in several capacities including grant writing and marketing.

In 1982, Louise and Billy C. Sims were married in Knoxville, Tennessee. Bill’s job took them back and forth across the U.S. a dozen times from a houseboat on the Tennessee River to California to Maine to Wisconsin to Florida and towns and cities in between.

Sims loved this life. The first thing she would do in a new town would be to find a fabric shop, the best bakery (preferably doughnuts), the library and the post office. She made lasting friendships everywhere they lived.

In 1985, Louise and Bill bought an old Victorian rooming house, which they transformed into a charming bed and breakfast, The Bells, Bethlehem, New Hampshire.

She was a talented artist, an avid golfer and gardener, who loved to entertain, cook and spend much effort in trying to replicate her hometown favorites: DiCamillo’s bread and kimmelweck rolls.

Louise leaves behind her husband, Billy Clayton Sims; her twin sister, Cynthia (Charles, deceased) Cowdrick; a nephew, James (Leigh) Cowdrick; nieces, Molly (Paul) Gigliotti and Kimi (Joseph) Watroba; and Bill’s children, Roger C. Sims and Robin (Billy) Wilson.

A commemoration will be held at the convenience of the family.
