Board of Education President

The Board of Education election and budget vote is Tuesday, June 9. All voting is to be conducted by mail.

Ballots must be received by 5 p.m. Tuesday. There is a ballot lockbox at the district office, available Monday-Friday (7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.), if you wish to drop your ballot off rather than mailing it with the postage-paid envelope (or if you are late getting it in the mail). The ballot lockbox will be available on Tuesday, June 9, until the 5 p.m. deadline. If you have not received an absentee ballot packet, please contact District Clerk Marisa Barile at 716-286-7266 or email [email protected].

Ballots will be counted beginning at 5 p.m. Seven Niagara County election inspectors, the district clerk and election officer Kevin Szanyi will conduct the process. Results will be announced once counting is completed – which, dependent upon number of ballots received, may be that evening. Official results will be announced once certified.

The Link, our district newsletter, arrived in mailboxes Wednesday and provides detailed information on the proposed budget, capital project referendum, and candidates for the Board of Education. Visit the BUDGET and ELECTION 2020-2021 page of our website for a digital copy of The Link, along with Wednesday’s budget hearing presentation, the 86-page Board of Education school budget fiscal year 2020-21.

There are three seats up for election to the Board of Education: Two three-year terms and a one-year term (to fill the vacancy left by resignation of Natalie Beilein in 2019). There are four candidates: Anika Fetzner, Charlotte Huebschmann, Jennifer Klimick, and Danielle Mullen. The top two vote-getters will receive the full three-year terms, while the candidate who comes in third receives the one-year term.

The four candidates presented to the public at Tuesday’s Board of Education work session via Zoom. Their bios are featured both in The Link and posted to the budget and election page (link above).

Every eligible voter has received a mail-on ballot, and the Board of Education encourages every one of you to educate yourself on the budget, the capital project and the candidates. Do your civic duty and vote. We thank you for your support of education at Lewiston-Porter, during these recent difficult times and always.

•In addition to the budget vote and election on Tuesday, next week also marks the end of the 2019-20 school year. Lockers and classrooms are currently being cleaned and sorted. Parents will be able to pick up student personal belongings and drop off technology and school/library books at their school from 12:30-6 p.m. as follows: Wednesday, June 10: all students with last names A-L; Thursday, June 11: all students with last names M-Z. This will allow parents with students in multiple building to make only one trip to campus. Parents, please check in with Seesaw (elementary) and/or Google Classroom (secondary) and direct messages from your teachers and principals for details.

•High school and middle school student can now virtually sign their yearbooks: Jostens has launched a new platform, Yearbook Digital Signing Pages, giving every student the chance to create a virtual signing page section for their yearbook. Each student needs only to register an account at yearbooksigning.jostens.com. They will then be provided with a personalized and secure link that can be shared with friends. Once they have collected all their signatures, the pages can be printed to save with the yearbook. This is free to all students, whether they purchased a yearbook or not.

We have persevered, and will get through whatever comes our way, together.
