$50,000 to FeedMore WNY; donation part of company’s effort to support COVID-19 response

NYSEG, an AVANGRID company, has donated $50,000 to FeedMore WNY to support the organization’s ongoing response to COVID-19 situation. The donation is part of a $2 million commitment by NYSEG’s parent company, AVANGRID, to support national and local programs that are assisting those impacted by COVID-19.

“While the company has taken a number of steps to put customers first and assist those impacted by the ongoing situation, supporting local organizations such as FeedMore WNY is an important step in caring for the communities we serve,” said Carl A. Taylor, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E.

FeedMore WNY provides nutritious food and support to its neighbors in need throughout Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties. Through its food bank distribution center and network of partner agencies, as well as its home-delivered meal program and other targeted feeding programs, FeedMore WNY alleviates hunger and assists community members of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances, including children, families, veterans, people with disabilities and aging community members. While FeedMore WNY typically serves more than 135,000 individuals annually, thousands of additional community members have turned to the hunger-relief organization for support in recent weeks since the COVID-19 crisis began.

“We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation from NYSEG to support our ongoing COVID-19 relief efforts,” said Tara A. Ellis, president and CEO of FeedMore WNY. “There is an overwhelming need for food assistance in our community as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Those who are reaching out to FeedMore WNY and our partner agencies include people who have been laid off due to the outbreak, families with children who are no longer receiving school meals, and aging community members who are either unable or too frightened to leave home. This donation will enable FeedMore WNY to continue to provide our hungry neighbors with the assistance they so desperately need.”

In addition to the $50,000 donation to FeedMore WNY, the company announced additional contributions to regional food banks in Rochester, Central New York, the Southern Tier and Northeastern New York. The company previously announced last month that it, along with sister company RG&E, had donated 17,700 N95 and surgical masks to the state’s COVID-19 response effort to assist health care workers on the front lines. The company also announced a number of steps it has taken to assist customers that have suffered financial hardships as a result of the virus.
