Town of Wheatfield Supervisor

The following message was issued by Wheatfield Town Supervisor Don MacSwan earlier this week:

The last few months since the COVID-19 virus took hold has been a life-changer for everyone. The loss of so many people to this wicked virus and the additional effects on these families is overwhelming.

The loss of income, not being able to work and being locked down at home has put a lot of stress on everyone. There is also added stress from the virus outbreak on health care workers and our essential workers in the Town of Wheatfield who have worked through it all wearing masks and sanitizing the equipment after use.

The town has continued to provide essential services in all departments as necessary throughout this difficult time. We have started the process of preparing our town facilities for reopening. We have placed Plexiglas shields in most offices to protect our employees as well as our residents who enter. We have set up sanitizing stations at various points in our offices.

Those who enter the offices will be required to wear a mask and will be screened upon entering by our constables. At this time, we are looking at pre-registration for all meetings, which will allow us to keep the occupancy load down and comply with social distancing.

Our youth center and community/senior center are still closed at this time but look forward to opening when appropriate.

With a heavy heart we have had to cancel all recreation programs throughout the summer, including our baseball programs. The 4th of July fireworks celebration has also been canceled, obviously where social distancing is impossible. The fireman’s convention in July has also been canceled.

I look forward to our businesses and restaurants reopening and thriving again! Things have been changing day by day and at times minute by minute, so feel free to call me for any possible changes and updates.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and God bless.
