Coronavirus stats for May 27

Niagara County

Niagara County’s Department of Health issued the following update on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County: “We regretfully report the death of four Niagara County residents due to COVID-19. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of these individuals.”

The deceased include:

  • A 75-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • A 94-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • A 66-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • An 89-year-old male with underlying health conditions

The rest of the update is as follows:

  • 16 new positive cases, for a total of 1,020 positives to date (isolations + recoveries + deaths)
  • 301 active cases (286 isolating at home, 15 in a hospital)
  • 656 recovered
  • 63 deaths
  • 11,529 people tested, with less than 9% positive (source: https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/)
  • Quarantines, unlike isolations, are for people who are well and not showing symptoms, but may have been exposed to the virus. Right now, 257 people are in quarantine while 752 have completed quarantine.

Erie County

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Erie County had a total of 5,784 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 65 on Grand Island and 2,498 in the City of Buffalo. To date, 47,870 people have been tested (12.1% positive), with 504 deaths attributed to the coronavirus. Also, 41,362 people have taken an antibody test (7.6% positive).
