Coronavirus stats for May 20

Niagara County

Niagara County’s Department of Health issued the following update on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County: “We regretfully report the death of five Niagara County residents. We extend our deepest sympathies to their family and friends.”

The deceased include:

A 71-year-old female with underlying health conditions

  • A 75-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • An 89-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • A 70-year-old male with underlying health conditions
  • A 75-year-old male with underlying health conditions 

The rest of the update is as follows:

  • 22 new positive cases, for a total of 918 positives to date (isolations + recoveries + deaths)
  • 293 active cases (277 isolating at home, 16 in a hospital)
  • 568 recovered
  • 57 deaths
  • 7,645 people tested (source: https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/)

Quarantines, unlike isolations, are for people who are well and not showing symptoms, but may have been exposed to the virus. Right now, 228 people are in quarantine while 703 have completed quarantine.

Erie County

As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Erie County had a total of 5,054 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 55 on Grand Island and 2,082 in the City of Buffalo. To date, 32,873 people have been tested (15.4% positive), with 455 deaths attributed to the coronavirus. Also, 27,161 people have taken an antibody test (7.6% positive).
