The Niagara County Department of Health issued the following update Thursday on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County:

“We regret to report the passing of a 65-year-old male with underlying health conditions. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”

  • 32 new positive cases, for a total of 326 to date
  • 154 in isolation (136 isolating at home, 18 in hospital isolation)

As part of her weekday afternoon update on LCTV, Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh said, “This is a big number. It is our biggest number in one day so far, throughout this crisis. But we also believe that this number is a byproduct of the factor that we are doing more testing recently in Niagara County. So, while this number’s a bit shocking – it's hard to hear 32 new cases in one day – it's not surprising to the professionals.

“Of course, it underscores that we are not on the downside of this curve yet. We've continued to say that our numbers are still going up here. They’re hopefully not going to go up drastically – we want to keep this on a level field – but we certainly are not into the downswing yet.”

Erie County, meanwhile, has 2,594 total cases as of noon. That includes 37 on Grand Island and 1,032 positives in Buffalo.
