Coronavirus stats for May 15

Niagara County

Niagara County’s Department of Health issued the following update on positive COVID-19 cases in Niagara County: “We regretfully report the death of four Niagara County residents. We extend our deepest sympathies to their family and friends.”

The deceased include:

  • An 86-year-old male with underlying health conditions
  • An 89-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • A 90-year-old female with underlying health conditions
  • A 95-year-old female with underlying health conditions

The rest of the update is as follows:

  • 30 new positive cases, for a total of 796 positives to date (isolations + recoveries + deaths)
  • 299 active cases (279 isolating at home, 20 in a hospital)
  • 447 recovered
  • 50 deaths
  • 6,311 people tested (source: https://covid19tracker.health.ny.gov/)

Quarantines, unlike isolations, are for people who are well and not showing symptoms, but may have been exposed to the virus. Right now, 183 people are in quarantine while 645 have completed quarantine.

Erie County

As of 4 p.m. Thursday, Erie County had a total of 4,732 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 49 on Grand Island and 1,946 in the City of Buffalo. To date, 28,663 people have been tested (16.5% positive), with 411 deaths attributed to the coronavirus. Also, 23,853 people have taken an antibody test (7.7% positive).
