Honored for its commitment to energy efficiency across New York for 15th consecutive year

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced it has been recognized with the 2020 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award. NYSERDA’s accomplishments are being recognized for the 15th consecutive year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy.

NYSERDA is receiving the award for demonstrating exemplary commitment and dedication to leadership in energy efficiency and the ENERGY STAR program. NYSERDA’s energy-efficiency programs support Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s “Green New Deal,” a nation-leading clean energy and climate agenda that has put the state on a path to economy wide carbon-neutrality.

Alicia Barton, president and CEO of NYSERDA, said, “Receiving this outstanding recognition for now the 15th consecutive year is a testament to Gov. Cuomo’s leadership and unwavering commitment to energy efficiency as a key part of his nation-leading ‘Green New Deal.’ NYSERDA’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program is making it easier and more affordable for New Yorkers across the state to make the smart investment in a more energy-efficient home, helping them lower their energy bills and live more comfortably all year long.”

The U.S. DOE and EPA recognized NYSERDA’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program, including its low-income EmPower New York (EmPower) component serving households with incomes at or below 60% of the state median Income. Together, the programs offer New Yorkers with access to no-cost or reduced-energy assessments for their one- to four-person family home, customer and contractor incentives for completed energy efficiency improvements, and low-cost financing. Since 2001, over 250,000 homeowners and renters have participated, reducing their energy costs and increasing comfort of their homes.

A press release said, “This award demonstrates NYSERDA’s continued efforts to advance Gov’ Cuomo’s ‘New Efficiency: New York 2025’ energy efficiency target to reduce energy consumption by 185 trillion BTUs below forecasted energy use in 2025 – a level of savings equivalent to fueling and powering over 1.8 million New York homes. Building on these efforts, NYSERDA’s new and existing energy efficiency programs will help support the recent order from the New York State Public Service Commission aimed at dramatically reducing energy consumption in New York and transforming the way New York residents and businesses heat and cool their homes and offices, and move towards cleaner and healthier buildings and communities throughout the state.”

The 2020 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are bestowed upon a diverse set of organizations that have demonstrated continued leadership in energy efficiency. The awards recognize leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, include energy-efficient products, services, new homes and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors.
