The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office released the following press release Monday:

Acting Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti would like to address the decision made by New York state to reduce local government employees by 50% until further notice. Filicetti said all emergency personnel will remain available, which includes our road patrol, communications and corrections.

Due to this declaration by the state, some nonessential services offered by NCSO will be affected. We will not be able to offer free car seat checks at this time. All traffic safety programs will be canceled until further notice.

Our civil division will not be able to process evictions during this shutdown. Our victim services division will only be able to perform emergency functions. They will not be able to process any claims or reimbursements at this time. The forensic laboratory will not be able to process any evidence until further notice. The NCSO records division will be closed during this shutdown. Accident reports can still be obtained by visiting www.buycrash.com.

As a reminder, the governor's office also issued directives that gyms and movie theaters will be closed beginning tonight at 8 p.m. Bars and restaurants will be open for take-out orders only as of 8 p.m. this evening. Also, no public or private gatherings of 50 or more will be allowed until further notice.

The governor is asking that all nonessential travel be restricted between the hours of 8 p.m. through 5 a.m. each day.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office will remain vigilant and ready to respond should our community need any assistance. If anyone has any questions, they are always welcome to contact our 24-hour, nonemergency number at 716-438-3393.
