Arts Services Initiative of Western New York recently announced winners and finalists of the seventh annual Spark Awards, celebrating those who ignite arts and culture.” The accolade honors outstanding individuals and organizations in the local arts and cultural community.
Lewiston Council on the Arts received the Spark Award for Decentralization Program of the Year for the Iroquois Market presented in conjunction with the 53rd Lewiston Art Festival. LCA partnered with the Tuscarora Nation to bring Native American artists and performers to more than 25,000 visitors.
"We were grateful for the DEC grant that allowed us to share this beautiful culture with the thousands of visitors to Lewiston. More than 40 grants were given in Erie and Niagara counties, so to receive an award recognizing the quality and significance of the program is truly an honor," LCA Executive Director Irene Rykaszewski said.
Awardees will be honored at a ceremony Wednesday, May 13, at Forbes Theatre in Buffalo. Guests will enjoy food, drinks, entertainment and a silent auction. Tickets can still be purchased at asiwny.org.
Iroquois Market at the Lewiston Art Festival was sponsored by New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature with a decentralization grant administered through ASI.
