Green Beer Sunday Event back in Tonawandas

Fri, Feb 21st 2020 07:00 am

“We always say it’s green beer, but it all depends on getting the dye into the keg. It is all Irish beer though,” said Mark Saltarelli, the contact for this year’s St. Patrick’s weekend in the Tonawandas – the sixth annual Green Beer Sunday Event.

This year, the parade will be organized in the parking lot of the Tonawanda Towers and because a portion of Young Street is closed due to construction, Saltarelli said. The route will be down Broad Street to Main Street, across the Webster Street Bridge, and into Gateway Harbor Park on the North Tonawanda side of Erie Canal.

According to the event’s website, a $100 prize will be given out to the best float. Interested parties can find the registration form at https://forms.gle/z1nTgV6qAiFwchBe8.

Along with corn beef sliders, salt potatoes and – of course – beer, there will also be a 50/50 raffle, a “Best Dressed” contest and live band, Pour Ould Goat, playing from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Souvenir beer cups will also be for sale, giving each cupholder a discount on their first beer.

For those who are concerned about the cold, a large, heated tent has been reserved since January. Contact  Saltarelli at 716-866-6805 for more information.
