GI Relay For Life to pass $2 million mark

Relay For Life Kickoff March 24 at Ellden’s Grill & Banquet

Grand Island Relay For Life is poised to cruise by the $2 million mark in funds raised for the American Cancer Society as the 18th annual event approaches.

Grand Island Relay For Life tri-chairwomen Wendy Napier, Lynn Dingey and Kim Kalman announced that the 2020 relay will take place from 4 p.m. to midnight on Friday, June 12, at Veterans Park. They said GI Relay is gearing up for the 2020 event with a kickoff set for March 24 at Ellden’s Grill & Banquet at River Oaks. The theme of this year’s Relay is “Cruising for a Cure to Drive Away Cancer.”

Dingey said in keeping with the theme, this year’s Relay will incorporate for the first time ever a car show.

•Monday, Feb. 24 – Annual Tastefully Simple Party at Mallwitz’s Island Lanes.

•Saturday, March 21 – Trivia Night at TC’s Island Bar & Grille

•Friday, March 27 – Bowl for a Cure at Mallwitz’s Island Lanes.

•Saturday, March 28 – Band and Baskets at Mallwitz’s Island Lanes.

•Sunday, April 19 – Purple Ribbon Warrior 5K at Say Cheese Pizza Co.

•Saturday, May 2 – Paint the Town Purple Day.

•Sunday, May 3 – Zumbathon-Shake Away Cancer, at Radisson Grand Island.

•Sunday, May 17 – Dan McBride Memorial Cup hockey game at HarborCenter.
