U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3-1 will offer its “About Boating Safety” one-day class this spring and early summer in the River Region. Classes will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 29, March 28, April (TBA), May 16 and June 20, at the Officers Club, Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown. An additional class will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lewiston Fire Co. No. 2, 1705 Saunders Settlement Road.

USCG Auxiliary member Thomas Chiappone, FSO-PA, of USCG Station Niagara, said New York state law mandates all jet-ski operators and individuals born after May 1, 1996, successfully complete this course in order to operate a boat in New York waters. Successful participants may also be entitled to a 10% discount on their marine insurance.

Class size is limited. To reserve a place, contact Marty Laufer at 716-390-7727 or [email protected]. For more on the Coast Guard Auxiliary, visit www.cgaux.org/.
