The Center for Elder Law & Justice has been named as a grant recipient by the Garman Family Foundation Fund, administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.

A grant in the amount of $50,000 will support transitional services for elder abuse victims, addressing the psychological, emotional and social well-being of older adults who have experienced maltreatment, with the majority of the expected beneficiaries to be older women.

A press release stated, “Elder abuse victims often need additional assistance due to the high intensity of the issues they face, including social isolation, loss of a caretaker, loss of funds, and physical harm or issues with safe housing.”

Clients receiving free legal assistance at the Center for Elder Law & Justice will be linked to ElderCare Solutions of WNY for transitional services, with the goal to empower older adults, improve mental health, and reduce the recurrence of abuse.

“We are very grateful for this support from the Garman Family Foundation Fund. We work every day with abuse victims to meet their legal needs, but this funding will allow us to give these clients an additional support system as they recover from their trauma, and aim to meet the social well-being of these older adults,” said Karen Nicolson, CEO of the Center for Elder Law & Justice.
