Beginning this evening, six Western New York companies will compete to build structures – Canstructions – made entirely out of canned goods. Employees from Watts Architecture & Engineering, CPL Architecture & Engineering, Trautman Associates, Ferguson Electric, Marathon Energy/Buffalo State and Hamburg Gaming are schedule to participate in the competition with all canned goods used benefitting FeedMore of Western New York.
The event will take place at the Fairgrounds Festival of Lights in Hamburg.
Teams will have a total of 12 hours to build displays, including during the festival hours, 5-10 p.m. Dec. 13-15. Patrons will be able to choose their favorite Canstruction from Dec. 14-23. Judging by a selected panel will take place the following week. Canstruction judging categories will include, “Best Original Design,” “Structural Ingenuity,” “Best Use of Labels,” “Best Meal,” “People's Choice,” and “Most Cans Used.”
This year marks the 15th year for what has become a time-honored holiday tradition in Western New York. The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg runs every weekend through Dec. 15 with an expanded schedule Dec. 18-23.
